Oribaculum Moore and Moore 1994, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Oribaculum catoniae Moore and Moore 1994.
Etymology: L. neut. n. os oris, the mouth; L. neut. n. baculum, a stick, staff; N.L. neut. n. Oribaculum, rod from the mouth.

¤ Porphyromonas Shah and Collins 1988.

Note: Willems and Collins 1995 propose to transfer ¤ Oribaculum catoniae Moore and Moore 1994 (the type species of the genus Oribaculum) to the genus ¤ Porphyromonas as ¤ Porphyromonas catoniae (Moore and Moore 1994) Willems and Collins 1995, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Oribaculum to ¤ Porphyromonas.
