Parvimonas Tindall and Euzéby 2006, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Parvimonas micra (Prévot 1933) Tindall and Euzéby 2006.
Illegitimate synonym: Micromonas Murdoch and Shah 2000.
Etymology: L. adj. parvus, little, small; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Parvimonas, a small monad.
Valid publication: TINDALL (B.J.) and EUZÉBY (J.P.): Proposal of Parvimonas gen. nov. and Quatrionicoccus gen. nov. as replacements for the illegitimate, prokaryotic, generic names Micromonas Murdoch and Shah 2000 and Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002, respectively. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2006, 56, 2711-2713.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Note: The name ¤ Micromonas Murdoch and Shah 2000 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus name, Micromonas I. Manton and M. Parke 1960 [Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new genus designation Parvimonas has been proposed by Tindall and Euzéby 2006.
