Etymology: Gr. masc. n. pelos, mud or clay; L. masc. n. sinus, bend; N.L. masc. n. Pelosinus, a curved organism from clay.

Pelosinus defluvii Moe et al. 2012, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) SHI-1 = LMG 25549 = NRRL Y-59407.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: JF750003.
Etymology: L. gen. n. defluvii, of waste, because the first isolation source was groundwater from a site contaminated with hazardous waste.

Basonym: ¤ Sporotalea propionica Boga et al. 2007.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. acidum propionicum, propionic acid; N.L. masc. adj. propionicus, pertaining to propionic acid, which the organism produces from various substrates.
