Type species: ¤ Phocoenobacter uteri Foster et al. 2000.
Etymology: Gr. n. phôkaina, porpoise; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. phocoenobacter, a rod from a porpoise.
Valid publication: FOSTER (G.), ROSS (H.M.), MALNICK (H.), WILLEMS (A.), HUTSON (R.A.), REID (R.J.) and COLLINS (M.D.): Phocoenobacter uteri gen. nov., sp. nov., a new member of the family Pasteurellaceae Pohl (1979) 1981 isolated from a harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: X89379.
Etymology: L. n. uterus -i, the womb, matrix; L. gen. n. uteri, of uterus.
