Planctomycetales Schlesner and Stackebrandt 1987, ord. nov. (Type order of the class ¤ Planctomycea Cavalier-Smith 2002).
Type genus: ¤ Planctomyces Gimesi 1924 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Planctomyces -etis, type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Planctomycetales, the Planctomyces order.

2 The order Planctomycetales (effective publication Schlesner and Stackebrandt 1986, type family: Planctomycetaceae corrig. [Planctomycetacea (sic)] Schlesner and Stackebrandt 1987) appears also on the Validation List no. 26 [1]. The date of valid publication of this name is in fact that of the first citation in a Validation List (List no. 23, published 9 April 1987) [2].
