Type species: ¤ Planobispora longispora Thiemann and Beretta 1968 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. planos, wanderer; L. adv. num. bis, twice (double); Gr. fem. n. spora, a seed, and in biology a spore; N.L. fem. n. Planobispora, a motile, double-spored organism.

Etymology: L. adj. longus, long; Gr. n. spora, a seed, and in biology a spore; N.L. n. longispora (nominative in apposition), the long spore.
