Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) JA173 = ATCC BAA-1275 = DSM 17935 = JCM 13532.

Etymology: L. neut. adj. gokarnense, pertaining to Gokarna, the place from which the type strain was isolated.
