Type order: ¤ Rubrobacterales Rainey et al. 1997 (complete authorship reads Rainey, Ward-Rainey and Stackebrandt).
Etymology: N.L. n. Rubrobacter, type genus of the type order of the class; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Rubrobacteria, class of the order Rubrobacterales.
