Etymology: L. n. salsugo -inis, salted water; L. masc. n. bacillus, rod; N.L. masc. n. Salsuginibacillus, a rod living in salted water.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) halo-1 = CGMCC 1.7653 = NBRC 104934.

Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. halophilus, salt-loving.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) CH9d = CCM 7365 = CECT 7154 = CGMCC 1.6287 = DSM 18087.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AM492160.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. kocurii, of Kocur, named for the Czech microbiologist M. Kocur, a pioneer in the study of halophilic micro-organisms.
