Type species: ¤ Samsonia erythrinae Sutra et al. 2001.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Samsonia, named after the French phytobacteriologist Re!gine Samson, INRA, Angers, France, who works on pectolytic Erwinia.
Valid publication: SUTRA (L.), CHRISTEN (R.), BOLLET (C.), SIMONEAU (P.) and GARDAN (L.): Samsonia erythrinae gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from bark necrotic lesions of Erythrina sp., and discrimination of plant-pathogenic Enterobacteriaceae by phenotypic features. Samsonia erythrinae Sutra et al. 2001, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF273037.
Etymology: L. gen. n. erythrinae, of Erythrina, referring to plants of the genus Erythrina, family Fabaceae, from which the organism was isolated.
