Type species: ¤ Sediminicola luteus Khan et al. 2006.
Etymology: L. n. sedimen -inis, sediment; L. masc. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola), an inhabitant; N.L. masc. n. Sediminicola, an inhabitant of sediment, referring to the source of the strains.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) PAMC 27266=KCCM 43038=JCM 19894.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: KM576847.
Etymology: L. masc. adj. arcticus, of the Arctic, the environment from where the type strain was isolated.

Sediminicola luteus Khan et al. 2006, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) CNI-3 = LMG 23246 = NBRC 100966.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. luteus, golden yellow, because the colony colour is golden yellow.
