Type species: ¤ Sorangium cellulosum (Brockman 1989) Reichenbach 2007.
Synonym: "Sorangium" Jahn 1924.
Etymology: Gr. n. soros, heap, pile; Gr. neut. n. angeion (Latin transliteration angium),  vessel; N.L. neut. n. Sorangium, piled up vessel.
