Type species: ¤ Sphingoaurantiacus polygranulatus Kim et al. 2016.
Etymology: N.L. n. sphingosinum (from Gr. gen. n. sphingos, of the sphinx, and suff. -ine), sphingosine; N.L. pref. sphingo, pertaining to sphingosine; N.L. masc. adj. aurantiacus, orange-coloured; N.L. masc. n. Sphingoaurantiacus, a sphingosine-containing orange-coloured organism.
