Syntrophorhabdus Qiu et al. 2008, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Syntrophorhabdaceae Qiu et al. 2008).
Type species: ¤ Syntrophorhabdus aromaticivorans Qiu et al. 2008.
Etymology: Gr. adj. syn, together with; Gr. n. trophos, one who feeds; Gr. fem. n. rhabdus, rod; N.L. fem. n. Syntrophorhabdus, rod which feeds together with (another species).

Etymology: L. adj. aromaticus, aromatic, fragrant; L. part. adj. vorans, devouring; N.L. part. adj. aromaticivorans, devouring (utilizing) aromatic (compounds).
