Tatlockia Garrity et al. 1980, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Tatlockia micdadei Garrity et al. 1980.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Tatlockia, named after Hugh Tatlock, the individual who originally isolated this organism.
Valid publication: GARRITY (G.M.), BROWN (A.) and VICKERS (R.M.): Tatlockia and Fluoribacter: two new genera of organisms resembling Legionella pneumophila. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1980, 30, 609-614.

Note: The name Tatlockia Garrity et al. 1980 is a correct name (Principle 6). However, the names Tatlockia Garrity et al. 1980, ¤ Tatlockia micdadei Garrity et al. 1980 (the type species of the genus), and ¤ Tatlockia maceachernii (Brenner et al. 1985) Fox et al. 1991 have never found widespread usage.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Px-1-G-2-E2 = ATCC 35300= CCUG 31116 = CIP 103846 = JCM 7566 = NCTC 11982.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF227161.
Basonym: ¤ Legionella maceachernii Brenner et al. 1985.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. maceachernii, of  McEachern, named after Harold V. McEachern, who first isolated the organism.

Effective publication: FOX (K.F.), BROWN (A.), FOX (A.) and SCHNITZER (G.): Tatlockia, a genetically and chemically distinct group of bacteria. Proposal to transfer Legionella maceachernii (Brenner et al.) to the genus Tatlockia, as Tatlockia maceachernii comb. nov. Syst. Appl. Microbiol., 1991, 14, 52-56.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF227162.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. micdadei, of McDade, named after Joseph E. McDade, who isolated the etiologic agent of the 1976 Legionnaires' disease outbreak in Philadelphia.
