Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; Gr. adj. gymnos, nude; Gr. fem. n. monas, unit; N.L. fem. n. thermogymnomonas, hot, cell wall-less unit.

Etymology: N.L. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus, sour), an acid; L. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola), an inhabitant; N.L. n. acidicola, an inhabitant of an acidic environment.
