Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, warm, hot; Gr. masc. n. phagus, an eater, a glutton; N.L. masc. n. Thermophagus, a thermophilic eater.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. xiamenensis, of or pertaining to Xiamen, the location of the hot spring from which the type strain was isolated.
