Type species: ¤ Thermophagus xiamenensis Gao et al. 2013.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, warm, hot; Gr. masc. n. phagus, an eater, a glutton; N.L. masc. n. Thermophagus, a thermophilic eater.
Valid publication: GAO (Z.M.), LIU (X.), ZHANG (X.Y.) and RUAN (L.W.): Thermophagus xiamenensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a moderately thermophilic and strictly anaerobic bacterium isolated from hot spring sediment. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2013, 63, 109-113.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) HS1 = CGMCCC 1.5071 = DSM 19012.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: DQ517535.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. xiamenensis, of or pertaining to Xiamen, the location of the hot spring from which the type strain was isolated.
