Thermoterrabacterium Slobodkin et al. 1997, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Thermoterrabacterium ferrireducens Slobodkin et al. 1997.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. n. terra, earth, soil; L. neut. n. bacterium, rod; N.L. neut. n. Thermoterrabacterium, rod-shaped bacterium from heated land.
Valid publication: SLOBODKIN (A.), REYSENBACH (A.L.), STRUTZ (N.), DREIER (M.) and WIEGEL (J.): Thermoterrabacterium ferrireducens gen. nov., sp. nov., a thermophilic anaerobic dissimilatory Fe(III)-reducing bacterium from a continental hot spring. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1997, 47, 541-547.

¤ Carboxydothermus Svetlichny et al. 1991.

Note: Slobodkin et al. 2006 propose to transfer ¤ Thermoterrabacterium ferrireducens Slobodkin et al. 1997 (the type species of the genus Thermoterrabacterium) to the genus ¤ Carboxydothermus as ¤ Carboxydothermus ferrireducens (Slobodkin et al. 1997) Slobodkin et al. 2006, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Thermoterrabacterium to ¤ Carboxydothermus.
