Type species: ¤ Thioploca schmidlei Lauterborn 1907 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. fem. n. plokê, a twist, anything twisted, a braid; N.L. fem. n. Thioploca, sulfur braid.
