Verminephrobacter Pinel et al. 2012, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Verminephrobacter eiseniae Pinel et al. 2012.
Etymology: L. n. vermis, a worm; Gr. n. nephros, a kidney; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Verminephrobacter, earthworm-kidney (associated) bacteria.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 148. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 2549-2554.
Effective publication: PINEL (N.), DAVIDSON (S.K.) and STAHL (D.A.): Verminephrobacter eiseniae gen. nov., sp. nov., a nephridial symbiont of the earthworm Eisenia foetida (Savigny). Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2008, 58, 2147-2157.
Validation List no. 148 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Note: Verminephrobacter Pinel et al. 2008 and Verminephrobacter eiseniae Pinel et al. 2008, appear in the September 2008 issue of the IJSEM. However, these names were not validly published because the strain DSM 19286, cited as the type strain of ¤ Verminephrobacter eiseniae, is the type strain of Lysobacter capsici [see Rules 27 and 30]. In order to validly publish these names, Verminephrobacter Pinel et al. 2012 and Verminephrobacter eiseniae Pinel et al. 2012, are cited on Validation List 148.

Verminephrobacter aporrectodeae Lund et al. 2012, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) At4 = DSM 21361 = LMG 25313.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: FJ214186.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. aporrectodeae, of Aporrectodea, a reference to being the nephridial symbiont of earthworms of the genus Aporrectodea.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 148. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 2549-2554.
Effective publication: LUND (M.B.), SCHÄTZLE (S.), SCHRAMM (A.) and KJELDSEN (K.U.): Verminephrobacter aporrectodeae sp. nov. subsp. tuberculatae and subsp. caliginosae, the specific nephridial symbionts of the earthworms Aporrectodea tuberculata and A. caliginosa. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 2012, 101, 507-514.
Validation List no. 148 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Note: In the effecive publication, the authors describe the two subspecies Verminephrobacter aporrectodeae subsp. tuberculatae and Verminephrobacter aporrectodeae subsp. caliginosae. These proposals are not in accordance with the Rules 13d and 46 of the Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision) and they do not appear in Validation List 148.

Verminephrobacter eiseniae Pinel et al. 2012, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) EF01-2 = ATCC BAA-1489 = DSM 19249.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: DQ327663.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. eiseniae, of Eisenia, a reference to being the nephridial symbiont of the earthworm species Eisenia foetida.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 148. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 2549-2554.
Effective publication: PINEL (N.), DAVIDSON (S.K.) and STAHL (D.A.): Verminephrobacter eiseniae gen. nov., sp. nov., a nephridial symbiont of the earthworm Eisenia foetida (Savigny). Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2008, 58, 2147-2157.
Validation List no. 148 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Note: In the original publication the DSM number that is given, DSM 19286, is the type strain of Lysobacter capsici. Consequently the original publication does not meet the requirements of rules of the Bacteriological Code governing the deposit of the type strain in two different culture collections in two different countries. This affects valid publication of the genus name and species combination. The correct DSM number of the type strain of the type species appears on Validation List 148.
