Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Williamwhitmania, the name is dedicated to the US microbiologist William Barnaby Whitman, the director of the editorial office of Bergey’s Manual Trust, who significantly contributed to the study of extremophilic anaerobes and the taxonomy and systematics of prokaryotes.
