Xylanibacter Ueki et al. 2006, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Xylanibacter oryzae Ueki et al. 2006.
Etymology: N.L. n. xylanum, xylan; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Xylanibacter, rod decomposing xylan.
Valid publication: UEKI (A.), AKASAKA (H.), SUZUKI (D.), HATTORI (S.) and UEKI (K.): Xylanibacter oryzae gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel strictly anaerobic, Gram-negative, xylanolytic bacterium isolated from rice-plant residue in flooded rice-field soil in Japan. → ¤ Prevotella Shah and Collins 1990.
Note: Sakamoto and Ohkuma 2012 propose to transfer Xylanibacter oryzae Ueki et al. 2006 (the type species of the genus Xylanibacter) to the genus ¤ Prevotella as ¤ Prevotella oryzae (Ueki et al. 2006) Sakamoto and Ohkuma 2012, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Xylanibacter to ¤ Prevotella.
