Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Yaniella, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Yaniellaceae, the Yaniella family.

Notes:
1 ¤ Yaniaceae Li et al. 2005 is illegitimate because the genus name ¤ Yania Li et al. 2004 is illegitimate. Consequently, a new family designation Yaniellaceae Li et al. 2008 has been proposed by Li et al. 2008.
2 The genus ¤ Yaniella Li et al. 2008 (the type genus of the family Yaniellaceae Li et al. 2008) is in most 16S rRNA gene sequence-based phylogenetic analyses a member of the family ¤ Micrococcaceae Pribram 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) and it appears debatable whether it deserves the status as the type genus of its own family Yaniellaceae.

Note: Yassin et al. 2011, corrected the pattern of signature nucleotides that previously (Zhi et al. 2009) have been defined for the family Yaniellaceae. The new pattern (exept of position 196) corresponded to the pattern defined for the family ¤ Micrococcaceae by Zhi et al., (2009). So, according to Yassin et al. 2011, Yaniellaceae Li et al. 2008 is a later heterotypic synonym of ¤ Micrococcaceae Pribram 1929 (Approved Lists 1980).
