This taxon name is occasionally misprinted in some sources as: "Ilydrococcaceae".
Silva (1980) notes that as circumscribed in the Index Nominum Genericorum, this family includes Exococcus, the type of Exococcaceae Stizenberger 1860; Hyella, the type of Hyellaceae Borzì 1914; Dermocarpa, the type of Dermocarpaceae Geitler 1925; Pleurocapsa, the type of Pleurocapsaceae Geitler 1925, a superfluous name initially applied to a family that included Hyella; Podocapsa Ercegović 1931, a later homonym and the type of the family name Podocapsaceae Ercegović 1932, which is not in accordance with the rules of the ICN; Scopulonema, the type of Scopulonemataceae Ercegović 1932; and Xenococcus, the type of Xenococcaceae Ercegović 1932. Hydrococcaceae in the Index Nominum Genericorum has essentially the same circumscription as Hyellaceae in Bourrelly (1970, p. 336), which was incorrectly named since it included Hydrococcus. According to Silva (1980), Geitler (1942, p. 85) was incorrect in applying the name Scopulonemataceae to a family that included Hydrococcus.Publication:
