  • 🧍 According to Silva (1980) as circumscribed in the Index Nominum Genericorum, the Oscillatoriaceae include Borzia, the type of Borziaceae Borzì 1914; Crinalium, the type of Crinaliaceae Elenkin 1949; Plectonema, the type of Plectonemataceae Elenkin 1949; and Schizothrix, the type of Schizotrichaceae Elenkin 1949. Apparently Oscillatoriaceae was brought into post-starting point nomenclature by Engler (1892) as Oscillariaceae, based on Oscillaria Bosc ex Engler 1892, which is an orthographic variant of Oscillatoria Vaucher ex Gomont 1892 that is not in accordance with the rules of the ICNafp. Silva (1980) also remarks: "Antedating both Oscillariaceae and Oscillatoriaceae, however, is Lyngbyaceae (Gomont) Hansgirg 1892, based on Lyngbya C. Agardh ex Gomont 1892 (nom. cons). The key point in determining priority is the date of Gomont’s monograph, artificially set at 1 Jan. 1892 (cf. ICBN, Art. 13). Hansgirg’s article was published 5 Jan. while Engler’s ‘Syllabus’ appeared in April.
