Etymology: Baa.le.ni.ne’ma. Gr. neut. n. nêma, thread; N.L. neut. n. Baaleninema, a thread named in honor of Chase van Baalen (1925-1986), American microbiologist who was the first who studied strain PCC7105 and deposited it to the Pasteur Culture Collection
