Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Baaleninema, refers to the name of Chase van Baalen (1925-1986), an American microbiologist who was the first who studied strain PCC7105 and deposited it to the Pasteur Culture Collection and to the filamentous morphology (Greek word νήμα, or níma means „filament‟)
