Etymology: Mar.ga.li’ti.a. N.L. fem. n. Margalitia, named after Prof. Joel Margalit (1933-2011, Ben-Gurion University, Israel), who discovered the insecticide action of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis, used for controlling mosquitoes and black flies, which serve as vectors for many diseases
