Etymology: Paen.ac.ti.no’my.ces. L. adv. paene, almost; N.L. masc. n. Actinomyces, ray fungus; N.L. masc. n. Paenactinomyces, almost an actinomyces because it derives from this genus but is phylogenetically distinct
