Etymology: Pi.nocch’i.a. N.L. fem. n. Pinocchia, The genus name refers to the elongated cells, especially to terminal cells. Pinocchio is a popular character from a fairy tale from Italy (by Carlo Collodi), who had longer nose when telling lies.
