Etymology: Tan.ga.ro.ae.o’ta. N.L. neut. pl. n. Tangaroaeota, named after Tangaroa, the god of the sea, lakes, rivers and creatures that live within them, in Māori mythology, chosen to honour the sampling site of the type genome at the HSM in international waters off the coast of New Zealand.
