Etymology: xan.tho.li.ti.cus. N.L. masc. adj. lyticus; N.L. masc. adj. xantholiticus, yellow and soluble, referring to the yellow color of the vegetative mycelium and the tendency of the organism to lyse when maintained on some solid media (sic) [probably better: xantholyticus]
