Etymology: bis.set’ti.ae. N.L. gen. fem. n. bissettiae, of Bissett, proposed in honour of Dr Marjorie L. Bissett, who isolated and described this spirochaete along with her co-worker Warren Hill (Bissett and Hill 1987)
