Etymology: min.at.it.lan.en’sis. N.L. masc./fem. adj. minatitlanensis, of Minatitlán, a town in the south of Veracruz state in Mexico, where the anaerobic sludge of a pilot-scale reactor was sampled to inoculate the lab-scale UASB reactor from which the type strain was isolated
