Etymology: pa.ra.cu.ni.cu.lus. Gr. prep. para, beside, alongside of, near, like; L. masc. n. cuniculus, a rabbit, and the specific epithet of "Haemophilus cuniculus", a species that has never been described; N.L. masc. n. paracuniculus, like "Haemophilus cuniculus"
