🧍 In a Request for an Opinion, Boone and Kamagata 1998 [1] propose the transfer of Methanothrix thermophila to the genus Methanosaeta as Methanosaeta thermophila comb. nov., without a change in the type strain of the species or the species circumscription. A new name or new combination subject to a Request for an Opinion should not be considered as validly published unless the Judicial Commision votes to approve the Request. The Opinion requested by Boone and Kamagata is not yet published. Consequently, the new combination Methanosaeta thermophila (Kamagata et al. 1992) Boone and Kamagata 1998, cited in the Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology [2], is not validly published.Publication:

🧍 This species includes the type strain (Z-517 DSM 4774) of Methanosaeta thermoacetophila (Nozhevnikova and Chudina 1988) Patel and Sprott 1990. — Methanothrix thermophila Kamataga et al. 1992 and Methanothrix thermoacetophila Nozhevnikova and Chudina 1988 refer to the same taxon. The consequence of this ruling is that Methanothrix thermophila is illegitimate, should be rejected and Methanothrix thermoacetophila should be retained in its place.Publication:
