🧍 For the transfer of Haemobartonella canis (ex Kikuth 1928) Kreier and Ristic 1984 to the genus Mycoplasma Nowak 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) it is necessary to substitute a new specific epithet to produce Mycoplasma haemocanis because there is an earlier homonym, Mycoplasma canis Edward 1955 (Approved Lists 1980) [Rules 34a and 41a]. — Mycoplasma haemocanis (Kreier and Ristic 1984) Messick et al. 2002 is a nomen novum, not a combinatio nova as cited in the paper by Messick et al. 2002. — The Latin noun canis -is is in the masculine gender not in the feminine gender as cited in the paper by Messick et al. 2002.
