Mycoplasma haemomuris Neimark et al. 2002 is illegitimate because it is a homotypic synonym of the type species of Haemobartonella but Haemobartonella has priority over Mycoplasma. The name is a revision of the former classification as "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemomuris" and may not even be validly published.

In 2001, Neimark et al. proposed the transfer of Haemobartonella muris to the genus Mycoplasma with the Candidatus status: "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemomuris" Neimark et al. 2001. The Candidatus designation is for new, incompletely described taxa, in order to give them a provisional status; changing validly published names to Candidatus would lose their standing in nomenclature. So, Neimark et al. revise "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemomuris" to Mycoplasma haemomuris nom. nov. — For the transfer of Haemobartonella muris (Mayer 1921) Tyzzer and Weinman 1939 (Approved Lists 1980) to the genus Mycoplasma Nowak 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) it is necessary to substitute a new specific epithet to produce Mycoplasma haemomuris because the name Mycoplasma muris McGarrity et al. 1983 already existed [Rules 34a and 41a].
