Etymology: al.ka.li.to’le.rans. Arabic article al, the; Arabic masc. n. qaly, ashes of saltwort; L. pres. part. tolerans, tolerating; N.L. masc. part. adj. alkalitolerans, referring to the ability to tolerate high pH.
