Nomenclatural type of the genus Pirella Schlesner and Hirsch 1984.Publication:
Schlesner H, Hirsch P. Assignment of ATCC 27377 to Pirella gen. nov. as Pirella staleyi comb. nov. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol. 1984; 34:492-495.
The name Pirella staleyi is illegitimate because of precedence of the fungal genus Pirella Bainier 1883 [Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new species designation Pirellula staleyi (Schlesner and Hirsch 1984) Schlesner and Hirsch 1987, has been proposed by Schlesner and Hirsch 1987.Publication:
Schlesner H, Hirsch P. Rejection of the genus name Pirella for pear-shaped budding bacteria and proposal to create the genus Pirellula gen. nov. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol. 1987; 37:441.
The strain ATCC 27377 DSM 6068 was previously the type strain of Pasteuria ramosa Metchnikoff 1888 (Approved Lists 1980).
