Etymology: na.var.re’te.i. N.L. gen. masc. n. navarretei, named in honour of Group Commander (AD) Eduardo Navarrete Pizarro of the Chilean Air Force (FACH), who served as Chief of the Union Glacier Station during the Joint Scientific Expedition (ECA 55) from which soil samples were obtained for the isolation of the micro-organisms used in this study. Sadly, he died in the crash of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft in the Drake Passage on 9 December 2019
