Etymology: dur.rell’i.i. N.L. gen. masc. n. durrellii, after the innovative naturalist and conservationist Gerald Durrell who founded Jersey Zoo and played a vital role in the establishment of the captive breeding colony of Livingstone’s bats from which the strain was isolated
