🧍 The Subcommittee on the taxonomy of mollicutes favoured the combination of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri and Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides LC (large colony) strains into one taxon since the LC strains are more closely related to Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri than to the SC (small colony) strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides. These reassignments would have nomenclatural consequences. One possible solution would be to propose the combination of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri and Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides LC into the single taxon "Mycoplasma capri". As a consequence Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides SC might become simply Mycoplasma mycoides although the possible regulatory complications of these reassignments should be very carefully considered.Publication:
