Etymology: ya.noi.ku’yae. N.L. gen. fem. n. yanoikuyae, of Yano Ikuya, named in honor of Professor Ikuya Yano, the Japanese bacteriologist who first recognized the second major spot of alkaline-stable glycolipid (SGL-1', now known as galacturonosyl ceramide) on TLC.
