Genera named after persons O-S

Taxon names are frequently derived from personal names to honour persons, particularly persons associated with microbiology. Names of genera can be formed from latinized personal names. They usually end in -a and are in the feminine gender [Recommendation 10a (2)] and sometimes are a diminutive (ending in -ella). A part of the genus names found in LPSN and unambiguously derived from a personal name (or derived in the same way from the name of a location or, rarely, another kind of entity) are listed below, arranged by the name of the person or location or other entity to which they are referring. See also the LPSN introductory page on forming names.
