Etymology: Ca.va.naugh’i.a. N.L. fem. n. Cavanaughia, named after Prof. Colleen Cavanaugh who was one of the first to discover chemosynthetic symbiosis and worked on Solemya velum throughout her career and contributed significant knowledge to the field about its biology
