Etymology: Chi.mae.ri.bac’ter. Gr. fem. n. Chimaira, mythological monster with the body and the head of a lion, a snake as a tail and the head of a goat springing from her back; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Chimaeribacter, a rod that displays phenotypic characteristics found across different enteric genera such as yellow pigmentation (e.g. Cronobacter or Pantoea), temperature--dependent motility (Yersinia and Budvicia) and gelatinase activity (Serratia and Proteus)
