Etymology: Cy.a.no.com.per’i.a. N.L. fem. n. Cyanocomperia, The genus is named in honour of outstanding Belgian phycologist Dr. Pierre COMPERE for his work on Cyanobacreria and algae collected in Africa. Not Comperia K. KOCH 1849 (a genus of orchids).
