Notes:
🙄 This taxon name is occasionally misprinted (or affected by an OCR error) in some sources as: "Jhcracoccus"; "Tefracoccus"; "Tetracocccus"; "Tetracoceus"; "Tetracococcus".
💥 This name is a homonym of Tetracoccus W. West, 1892 (botanical); Tetracoccus Engelm. ex Parry (botanical) [from Catalogue of Life].
🧍 Pittman et al. (1991) suggested the abbreviation "TTCO" for this genus name but this does not appear to be of practical relevance any longer.Publication:
Pittman KF, Walczak CA, Lock CM. Codes and abbreviations for approved of effectively published names of genera of bacteria published from January 1980 to December 1990. Int J Syst Bacteriol 1991; 41:571-579.
🧍 "Tetracoccus" Blackall et al. 1997 is a later homonym of a genus name with standing in the botanical (plant) nomenclature: Tetracoccus Engelm. ex Parry 1885. Principle 2 of the 2008 Code is not retroactive, so the name would not illegitimate because of this homonymy if it was validly published. — Crook M. Personal communication, 2021-08-19.
