🧍 The species Comamonas terrigena (ex Hugh 1962) De Vos et al. 1985 encompasses three clusters on the basis of DNA-rRNA and DNA-DNA hybridization data, and of protein electrophoretic patterns and immunotyping. These three groups can also be differentiated phenotypically from each other. Consequently, Wauters et al. 2003 describe these three clusters as separate species and propose to rename Comamonas terrigena DNA group 2 [containing former Aquaspirillum aquaticum Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980)] as Comamonas aquatica comb. nov., and Comamonas terrigena DNA group 3 as Comamonas kerstersii sp. nov.
