Etymology: cerc’lae. N.L. gen. fem. n. cerclae, of CERCLA, an arbitrary name formed from CERCLA, the acronym for the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, which has mandated the clean-up of many hazardous waste sites in the USA.
